December of 2007 marked 45 years since we moved to our ranch 20 miles East and South of Williston, North Dakota.  Over the years we raised cattle, sheep, pigs and as always horses.

We developed first a registered Quarter horse program which eventually featured our main stud Salty Randy which was sired by Salty Devil 5 who was owned by Soren Rasmussen of Westby, Montana.    Randy became the main sire of our Quarter horse mares which we later paired up with a Registered APHA sorrel overo named Son Dee Dan Dee.   Salty Randy offered cutting horse and reining in his background with a winning disposition and beautiful head and confirmation.  Son Dee Dan Dee's disposition and looks contributed to the bloodline too.  The end result was a versatile horse which can herd cattle or trail ride and are smart and good looking.  Some of the mares go back to running bloodlines and the colts have speed and athletic ability.

Salty Randy's bloodlines go back to Hancock, Leo and Oklahoma Star.  Son Dee Dan Dee's bloodlines feature Sonny Dee Bar, Quincy Dan, Badger and Leo.

Our present main herd sires are Strawberry Boy and Major Tough.  Strawberry is a sorrel overo with two light blue eyes and is sired by Son Dee Dan Dee. His dam was sired by Little Doc Mose.

Major Tough is a 5 year old three color Tobiano.  He is sired by late Kristys Tuff Chick who was owned by Madison's of Alexander, ND.   Kristys Tuff Chick was a very gentle stud and a good roping horse.   Major is built very much like Kristys Tuff Chick.  Major's dam, Oreo Bee Bucko was a black and white Tobiano.  Her sire was Oreo kid, a black and white stud, owned by Rasmussen's of Westby.  Her dam  was a Buckskin colored mare.  There is also Man O War  in the background bloodline of Oreo Kid.

If you want a smart, versatile horse, ours have a lot to offer.  With the proper care, handling and training, you won't be disappointed.

Happy Trails!

Scanlan Family
